International Beer Day - Have a Beer Celebration Together

Beer is one of the oldest and most popular beverages and has its own international day on August 5 called International Beer Day. It was founded in 2007 in Santa Cruz, California, by Jesse Avshalomov and has grown from a small local event to a worldwide celebration spanning 207 cities, 80 countries, and 6 continents. International Beer Day has three declared purposes which include gathering with friends to enjoy the taste of beer, celebrating those responsible for brewing and serving beer, and uniting the world under the banner of beer.

A survey conducted by YouGov showed that about 23% of drinkers believe that noon is the right time to indulge in beer. According to the survey, 33% of Americans identify themselves as special occasion drinkers, while roughly 26% identify as social drinkers. The other 15% say the weekend is their best time to drink, 5% prefer to drink after work, and 5% identify as daily drinkers. 3% of the drinkers surveyed would like to drink anytime and anywhere. Beer is an important and beloved beverage worldwide, and International Beer Day is a testament to its popularity.

The beer market in the US has been experiencing steady growth due to the emergence of new brand labels and innovative flavors. The revenue of beer grew until the COVID-19 pandemic swept across the nation, causing it to decline to around 98 billion in 2020. However, the beer market bounced back following the relaxation of quarantine policies and eased travel limitations. The revenue of beer reached 109 billion in 2021 and increased to 121 billion in 2022, exceeding the number before COVID-19. The value is expected to keep rising to 131 billion in 2023.

Bud Light, Coors, Miller Lite, and Budweiser are some of the most popular brands preferred by consumers due to the emergence of new brands and innovative flavors. The resurgence of the good old lager or light beer is one of the most exciting trends globally, and the US is no different, with a majority of consumers preferring lagers to other types such as Super Premium and Craft. Corona is the leading imported beer brand in the US, with about 2.37 billion U.S. dollars worth of sales in 2018. The love for beer continues to be a shared experience across the US regardless of the pandemic's impact.

International Beer Day is usually celebrated by gathering with friends at beer festivals or hosting a gathering at home. Buying beer for friends and sharing the experience of trying different types of beer is a traditional way of celebrating the holiday. It is also encouraged to show gratitude to those involved in the process of making beer, such as brewers, bartenders, and other technicians. In the international spirit of the holiday, participants are also invited to step out of their comfort zone and try beer from other cultures. Overall, moderate drinking can help ease the pressure of daily life, and participating in International Beer Day is an excellent way to enjoy and appreciate the beverage.
